Welcome to the Division of Clinical Sciences. The division is directed by Jay Williamson, M.D., associate dean of clinical sciences for the College of Medicine. Staff support for the Division of Clinical Affairs is provided by Cinda Jenney. The division is comprised of the departments of Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Orthopaedic Surgery, Pathology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Radiology, Surgery and Urology. Twenty-six sections represent medical and surgical specialties within these departments. The Clinical Sciences faculty, which now numbers close to 1800, includes full-time geographic, full-time, part-time and numerous volunteer faculty. All are instrumental in the success of the College and in educating our residents and students.
To coordinate the many activities within the clinical departments, the College of Medicine has organized councils that include representatives from each of the affiliated hospitals. The Council Chair is appointed by the president and dean. This flow chart lists each Council (Department) and those individuals who lead these important areas. More specific information about each council can be obtained by clicking on that department. The councils are responsible for faculty appointment and evaluation methods. Research efforts are coordinated through the councils and discussions of graduate medical education occur at the council level.
Another important area in the Division of Clinical Sciences is a group called the Associate Deans for Clinical Education, more commonly referred to as the "Clinical Deans." These individuals are responsible for all graduate and undergraduate medical education at the major affiliated teaching hospitals, including Akron Children's Hospital, Akron General Medical Center of Akron, Aultman Hospital, Barberton Citizens Hospital, Forum Health, St. Elizabeth Health Center, Mercy Medical Center and Summa Health System. This council meets regularly to discuss key educational issues within the College of Medicine. For additional information about the educational efforts at the individual hospitals you may click on any of the above institutions.
