Having a reserved seat in medical school is the number-one reason I applied to NEOUCOM. A reserved seat meant that I would not have the stress of applying to medical school during college, and I could concentrate more on my class work and outside interests. I knew that if I planned my time wisely, I could do all of the activities that were important to me. I am involved in several different things, but it is dancing that I enjoy most. I have been dancing since the second grade!
Eric Chiang Class of 2003
I looked at several medical schools and I wanted to attend a medical school that would give me a lot of options when I graduated. After visiting NEOUCOM I knew that it was the right choice for me. I would encourage students to come to the campus and see how different it is from other medical schools. NEOUCOM will give them the medical education that they are looking for and an atmosphere that is unique. Coming from a larger school, I would describe NEOUCOM as very friendly and student-oriented. When I visited the campus, the staff and faculty all relayed the message that they were here to help the students.
Sara Vance Class of 2003
One of the most positive things I heard about NEOUCOM was from my father. He is a physician who works with residents and has had the chance to work with many NEOUCOM students. He often has commented that NEOUCOM students seemed to be right on top of things and are the most compassionate, personable and knowledgeable residents. My father has always been supportive, whether about going to medical school or my decision to help coach the synchronized swim team that I was on for 11 years.
Premi Thomas Class of 2003
The diversity of students is what attracted me to the B.S./M.D. program. New people and new places really appeal to me and at NEOUCOM I'm continually surrounded by people of different cultures and backgrounds. My love of travel has also been cultivated here through the opportunities I have had to travel as an undergrad, the availability of away electives in my fourth year, and the option to serve when I graduate in an area of the world which is medically underserved.
Dan Lewis Class of 2001
I chose NEOUCOM because it is one of the few schools that puts students in the hospitals to meet patients in the second year. I was very excited -- and a little nervous -- my first day in the hospital, but I found my first year prepared me well. I thought it was incredible that I actually was applying knowledge that I had learned and was taking patient histories and doing physical exams! Working with the patients reminds me that I went into medicine to help people and who better to learn from than physicians who actually have clinical practices. These days there are only two places to find me: in the hospital preparing for my career or relaxing on the golf course.
Ami Shah Class of 2003
Ever since I was little I knew that I wanted to be a doctor, and it is the human aspect of medicine that has appealed to me. When I was in the fifth grade, my sister was very sick. I saw how well the pediatrician treated her, and how the pediatrician affected not only her life but also the lives of everyone in our family. That was amazing to me. NEOUCOM focuses on the patient-physician relationship, and for me that is really important. My family, friends and heritage have always been a big part of my life. Whether it is through the cultural dancing that I do or simply spending time with the people I care about, I want to make sure that I stay connected to the things that are important to me.
Fareedah Goodwin & Father Class of 2002
I have always been very active; extracurricular activities help me keep balance in my life. Medical school is hard work, but I have been surprised at how much I still can do. I have been able to participate in many activities here at school as well as in my hometown. NEOUCOM's level of support for students also has been a pleasant revelation. I am blessed too, because my family -- especially my father -- has always been there for me.

Dr. Broome balances her busy career in medicine by pursuing interests such as gardening and farming. "I enjoy my practice and teaching residents, but it is my home that energizes me and keeps me centered." |
"If I had to do it all over again, I definitely would go to the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. Our faculty did a great job preparing us. I would compare my education with anyone's medical education anywhere. NEOUCOM prepares its graduates to be well-rounded and to connect with people."

"I always wanted to be a pilot and decided on a career in medicine as a flight surgeon. NEOUCOM's environment of personal attention offered a lot of one-on-one training and advice that helped me realize my goal. I specifically remember the personal attention the physician's gave us as we learned physical diagnosis and history-taking skills. As busy as those physicians were, they took the time to teach us well."
Philip Stepaniak, M.D., Class of 1983

NASA, Houston, Texas |

As lead flight surgeon for NASA's STS-95 mission that sent Senator John Glenn back into space, Dr. Stepaniak was primarily responsible for the mission's success in breaking through the age barrier and developing the capability to safely conduct research on aging and space flight. His work assured that all issues regarding Senator Glenn's health and safety were thoroughly resolved. |

"Balancing a career and family life is probably the most difficult aspect of your career, but the most important accomplishment you can achieve." |
"One of the benefits of my education at NEOUCOM was the environment of new ideas and change. The fact that I am now in a new surgical field - a field in which I now train medical students in surgery in a new and better way - is not that surprising. NEOUCOM offers a superb new outlook on medical education."
